Working with your homegrown and home dried herbs, you want to make your own tea blends. Take advantage of your materia medica to chose the herbs you want to blend for tea.
For blending tea you need:
- Dried herbs of your chosen types (about 2 cups, or more)
- A large dry bowl
- containers to store the mixed tea in
Combine all the herbs together in the large bowl and mix thoroughly. For large leafed herbs, like nettle, you may want to crumble the leaves a bit to get an even mix.
Put the mixed herbs into glass storage jars, and store for use in brewing tea.
Tea can be as simple as a single herb, like chamomile or mint, or a blend of multiple herbs for a purpose. When using bitter herbs, it is often recommended to include a sweet herb to even out the taste.
If you plan to use barks in a tea blend, remember that barks usually macerate better in alcohol, so you may want to use it in a tincture as well as in a tea.
Water extracts different parts of the herb as compared to alcohol, see how to make a tincture here.
