- Even if you don’t have much time to pursue your own interests
- Even if you don’t have a lot of money to invest right now in herbalism school
- Even if you’ve always wanted to learn about herbs but didn’t know where to get started
- Even if you just want the basics — the 80/20 that will get you fast results
Sometimes you just need to start
That’s what the DIY Herb of the Month Club is all about. Getting started.
Newton’s first law of motion states that an object that is at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion. So if you take that first step toward your goal of learning about using herbs, you are more likely to keep moving forward. That first step is often the hardest.
But I want you to get started because so many of my members in our DIY Herbal Fellowship membership have seen life changing results through using herbs.
Like Carole who crafted herbal poultice tea bags for her first aid kit, using “weeds” she foraged. I’ll let her tell you in her own words:
Just an anecdote – I was bitten on my ankle by a spider a couple of years ago just before I left for a business conference. It swelled up and was looking quite nasty. The nurses at the conference did what they could but nothing seemed to help. When I got home I immediately applied some plantain/charcoal compresses that Chris had told us about and within a few days my ankle was all better. So many thanks for the good info. — Carole B.
Or like Bobbi who used her knowledge of herbs like hawthorn and garlic to heal her heart, after a heart attack, and reduce her heart and blood pressure medication as a result.
Results like these:
- Getting off pharmaceutical drugs and seeing their blood pressure go back to normal range
- Catching The Virus and weathering it easily with natural remedies and vitamin supplements that support their natural immunity
- Supporting their adult children and grand children with natural remedies and seeing a decrease in seasonal viruses
- Finding relief for allergies and skin issues through herbs instead of harmful steroids
- Saving money with effective and safe DIY cleaning solutions instead of harmful chemical cleaners
- Reducing plastic waste through DIY self care and cosmetics, without being dependent on drug store items
- Reducing chemical exposure through natural products made at home using herbs and essential oils
- Finding support for pre and post menopausal symptoms through herbal teas and healthy lifestyle choices
- Finding relief for the nausea and discomfort of early pregnancy through herbs that are effective but also safe for baby
- Dissolving gall stones and passing them safely instead of going under the knife and avoiding a hospital stay
And the best part is that these remedies are as close as your own backyard or wilderness trail. You just need to get to know them better so you can apply their healing virtue to your own situation.

“Someday” starts today
Lots of people say to me, “I’ve always wanted to study herbs, and I will some day. But, I don’t have time right now”. This is exactly why I created the DIY Herb of the Month Club.
In the DIY Herb of the Month club, we’ll help you get started. And once you start, you’ll be an “object in motion” and you’ll keep making progress.
If you can devote just 5 to 15 minutes a day, you’ll get to know your herbal allies and gain the confidence you need to trust their healing virtue when you need it most, for yourself and for your family. My unique system helps people learn herbs faster and easier and helps them internalize what they learn to make them more successful using herbs for well being.
I’ve been using this system for 20 years teaching home schooled high school students about herbs and herbal remedies, as well as inside my DIY Herbal Fellowship, my full course herbal study program for adults and mature students.
One Herb at a Time
Learning one herb at a time is essential in herbal studies whether you are a beginner or an advanced healer. It’s like the scales that a musician does every single day at the start of the practice time. The beginner musician and the professional musician both benefit from this daily practice. In herbalism the daily practice is focusing on one herb at a time. While you could definitely do this on your own using online resources and books, it would take you a lot longer.
However, in the DIY Herb of the Month Club we do this heavy lifting for you and package it neatly in a 60+ page guide book, including recipes, gardening and propagating information, a materia medica, and up to date scientific research to give you a comprehensive overview of each herb. There are hands-on projects to engage your senses and your thinking and help you internalize what you are discovering, so that each month’s herb of the month moves from a casual acquaintance to an intimate herbal friend, that you can count on when you need it most.

Who is Chris
I’ve been working with herbs and natural remedies starting when I made my first batch of herbal soap 40 years ago. I’ve studied herbs with The Herbal Academy, The Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine, the Homegrown Herbalist School of Botanical Medicine, and Wild Rose College of Natural Healing. I’m the author of 5 books about self-reliance, food preservation, herbs and essential oils, including The Beeswax Workshop (Ulysses Press, 2017), The Beginner’s Book of Essential Oils (2015), and Homegrown Healing, from Seed to Apothecary (2016), The Dehydrator Cookbook for Beginners (Rockridge Press, 2022) and a second book with Rockridge Press coming out this fall.
In 2018, I founded the DIY Herbal Fellowship, a membership herbal education program for busy women who want to learn about herbs in a focused and deliberate way. In 2020, I founded The DIY Herb of the Month Club, a mini-membership to help those who want to learn about herbs but don’t know where to start or are shy about the time commitment, to just get started.
How does it work?
Each month inside the DIY Herb of the Month Club we focus on just one herb. But we go deep, in a systematic way, so that by the end of the month you know that herb really, really well.
We make it doable with a day by day plan that sifts through the important information about each month’s herbal ally, offers hands on experiential learning, practical recipes, and DIY projects, and then digs into the science to build your confidence little by little.
At the end of each month, DIY Herb of the Month Club members, who follow through the guide, with just 5 to 15 minutes a day, have a deep, experiential knowledge of the monthly herb that’s grounded in science. They are ready to use the monthly herb in a wide variety of ways for wellness and also in the kitchen, as appropriate. They also understand how to do in depth study using strong research tools, should they want to continue the study of the Herb of the Month longer than 30 days.
What’s included in the DIY Herb of the Month Club?

Who is the DIY Herb of the Month Club for?
The DIY Herb of the Month Club is for healers at any level and of any skill set. We focus on one plant each month to give you the opportunity to get to know this plant intimately and completely. The focus is hands-on involvement with the herb, and a growing confidence built on knowledge.
Whether you are a beginning herbalist, or an experienced healer wanting to refresh your memory and skills, there are things to learn and do through out the month, with room for personal creativity.
This is a brand new opportunity for a limited time
But here’s the thing. The DIY Herb of the Month Club is a unique membership that will help you learn herbs faster and easier. It applies the 80/20 rule and guides you through a 30 day journey to discover what each Herb of the Month has to offer in the kitchen and in the apothecary, as appropriate.
We also guide you to discover the way each herb was used in history and how its being used today. We offer you a materia medica that you can add to as you discover more about each herb. We also guide you to discover the current research for each Herb of the Month so you can evaluate the scientific studies and stay current on the benefits and qualities of each herb, grounded in research.
