Your Herbal Notebook
How to create an herbal notebook and inventory
Your herbal notebook for this first aid kit should be small enough to fit inside your kit. The waterproof “Field Notes” books are ideal for this.
The notebook should include the recipe for each herbal remedy as well as instructions on how to use the remedy safely. Leave a few pages after each remedy’s recipe so that you can note any future tweaks that you make to the recipe. There should also be space to note how many bottles, tins, or bags were made and placed in the kit or in storage, so that you know what you have on hand, and what you need to replace.
There should be also be pages in your notebook to note each time the remedy was used and the effect it had.
- Did the remedy work?
- Who used it?
- How long was it used for?
- Symptoms of the family member the remedy was used for
- And the length of time the symptoms were present.
- Did the symptoms worsen or get better
This information will be useful to take to the doctor, should the condition worsen and necessitate a doctor’s office visit. This is especially important with younger members of the family who may not remember as clearly, or with elderly family members who may be forgetful.
Place the notebook and a reliable pen inside your first aid kit, so that you have it when you need it. In an emergency you don’t want to have to hunt for a pen that actually writes.
