How the Course Works

You will gain the confidence in using herbs and natural remedies so that you will build an herbal instinct. This natural intuition will serve you well and give you a foundation to build upon.

You are encouraged to make the recipes in this course and become adept at making herbal remedies at home. Doing this hands-on practice will give you confidence in making herbal remedies for various health issues. These herbal remedies will become part of the seasonal work of putting herbs by in your home, so that you will be ready for every eventuality.

The course will take you about 10 hours to complete if you make all 10 recipes in the course curriculum. The recipes are in small batches so that you can make just as much as you require to build your personal herbal travel first aid kit. Recipes can be doubled and tripled easily to add to your home apothecary, but the recipes are intended to equip a travel first aid kit or 72 hour emergency kit.

Just like canning and food preservation, herb preservation should become part of your simple seasonal lifestyle. While you can purchase the herbs that you need in this course, many of the herbs can also be found, in season, growing wild or in gardens throughout the Northern Hemisphere, and they can be planted in your garden space or in containers.

The remedies in each unit focus on one common ailment that people encounter while travelling. Each remedy also includes an herbal lesson to familiarize you with common herbal techniques so that you can grow in confidence as an herbalist.

The remedies were designed with travel in mind. The size of the remedy and the particular packaging is designed to go through most airport security. Although we can’t guarantee that the remedies will pass import restrictions in all countries you may wish to visit in your travels. Know the regulations of the countries you plan to travel to so that you won’t be carrying any contraband in your luggage. For instance Australia has very rigid rules about the import of plant material. Herbal tea may be among the contraband items. Do your research before you go.

This course is not meant to answer all your questions about herbs and herbal remedies. This is an introduction to herbal remedy craft with practical application for the budding herbalist.

Each recipe will have variations for specific uses and a list of times when the remedy should be used with caution or not at all. Pregnancy or lactation are special cases where caution should be exercised. Each remedy will have a note to let you know how much caution is needed.

When using herbal remedies with children the general rule is to use 1/4 of an adult dose for children under 5, and 1/2 of an adult dose for children under 12. Check with a naturopath or a clinical herbalist before giving herbal remedies to a child under 2, unless the remedy specifically states that it is safe for infants.
